I was just wondering what kind of writing was allowed on here.
First of all in terms of fanfiction are there specific shows you accept or not?
Secondly, in terms of ratings, what do you accept there?
Finally, if somebody is hosting a story someplace else are links out allowed in the relevent section, and say new ones when the story is updated, that kind of thing?
It just occured to me I didn't know what, if any, rules were in place here and that if I didn't know new members wouldn't know. ;D

Good point, Spy_Master; several good points actually.
As far as fanfiction goes, I'd say that any shows whatsoever would be welcomed. Well, perhaps anything except Richard and Judy. ;D
Outbound links to stories hosted elsewhere - I can't see that being a problem at all - they'd be welcome. Probably just start a new thread for each, as though it were being written here but instead of new sections being added every so often, it would be links to the updates.
As for ratings, well that never really crossed my mind before and I'm not too familiar with ratings systems, so I'll leave that one for now and see if Stanie has any thoughts on it. Perhaps we could then put some guidelines in the relevant forums. Thanks for asking.

Thanks Steve ;D I'm writing a Without a Trace fanfic at the moment and hosting it at my site. It occured to me that I could post it here but wanted to check.
There are three ratings systems which I'm familiar with. The UK one, the US one and one calling itself a fiction rating guide.
UK goes U - Suitable for all PG - Some young children might get upset 12 - Children over 12 only 15 - Over 15 only (best at this point to say what's offensive about it) 18 - Very explicit. Not suitable for anybody
US goes G - All ages allowed PG - Some young children might get upset PG-13 - Some of it might not be appropriate for those under 13 R - Under 17 must be accompanied NC-17 - No-one under 17 admitted
Fiction ratings B - Intended for preschool level and younger children between the ages of 1 and 4. Content should be free of any coarse language, violence, adult themes, and ideas very young children cannot comprehend. K - Intended for general audience 5 years and older. Content should be free of any coarse language, violence, and adult themes. K+ - Suitable for more mature childen, 9 years and older, with minor action violence without serious injury. May contain mild coarse language. Should not contain any adult themes T - Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes. M - Not suitable for children or teens below the age of 16 with possible strong but non-explicit adult themes, references to violence, and strong coarse language. MA - Content is only suitable for mature adults. May contain explicit language and adult themes.
Maybe that will help you ;D

I like to write to some kind of plan but that's not what ratings are. Ratings are classifications which say whether it's ok for certain people to read without offending them.
Sometimes every chapter in a story will be PG-13 and then one chapter will be R and that bumps the whole rating up for the story to an R. To get over that if you don't know at the beginning what the rating will be then you can rate each chapter.
Like when you go to the cinema or buy a movie it'll have a ratings sticker on it. The store shouldn't let you buy that movie if you're 12 and you're trying to buy a 15 rated movie. It's to protect people. I guess it's not much of an issue here where most of the members are quite young anyway.
