First you will need somewhere to upload the picture to - photobucket.com/ is good if you're likely to be wanting to host a lot of pics, but if you don't want to register anywhere and just want a quick solution then go to imageshack.us/ and you can upload a picture there very easily. When the upload has finished and the page has refreshed, it will give you some links - copy the last link on the list - the one which says 'Direct link to image'. Then go to your profile page here on the forum and click on Modify Profile, and then paste that link into the box which says 'Avatar URL'. I think by default it displays at 60x60 pixels so you may want to increase the height and width up to a maximum permitted of 100x100, but alter the dimensions as appropriate if the image isn't a square. Click on Modify Profile when you're finished, and then sit back and admire your nice new shiny avatar.

Can someone please help me cure my frustration! What i'm trying to do, is upload a slideshow i've made using Photobucket, as my avator on TRFF. To do this, it needs to be 100x100 or smaller, so i've edited it so that it is 100x100. However, when i try to upload it in my profile, it just won't upload. Am i doing something wrong? And if so what? And what can i do to change this? This is what i'm trying to upload: I've had to edit it about 10 times just to get that to appear, so something blatently not right!

Oh and i'm aware that the above link isn't the one i've edited to be 100x100. I couldn't get that link to even link, so to speak.

Unfortunately, Proboards only supports standard image file formats for avatars, such as jpg and gif - it doesn't support that slideshow format.
At first I thought it could be done, because I've seen videos embedded as avatars on other Proboards forums, but now that I've looked into it, I see that it's a non-standard workaround and requires the admin to do some work behind the scenes by adding some code to the forum's control panel.
If the forum admin is happy doing tech stuff then it's easy and quick to do, and I could add the feature on here no problem, but you'd only be able to do that on another forum if the admin was willing and able to add the code.
I think the default forum settings would allow it to be added to your signature space, so if you want to try that then let me know and I'll let you know what you should put in there by way of a link to make it autoplay, instead of sitting as a still image, which is what I'm seeing in your post above.
Shame it won't just slot straight in as an avatar, because that's a neat little video.

I'm glad you liked it, Steve. I wasn't sure if i'd got carried away with the number of slides, but i didn't know which to leave out!! I've tried putting it as my signature instead, and it shows up there instead. I'm happy to have it there instead, i just fancied changing my profile pictures around a little. Is it fairly straightforward to add the autoplay link? And do you know of any programmes which you can use to create a moving avator that are compatible with the default avator settings on the Proboards forums?

The only way to make a moving avatar which is compatible with Proboards is to make an animated gif. You would need an animated gif-maker program, then you tell it which images to use, what transition effects (if any) you want between the individual frames, what dimensions you want it to be, and then it does the rest. The big drawback with gifs is that as you add more frames, or increase the dimensions, or if you specify complex transitions, then the file size quickly increases and you can end up with a big, slow-loading file.
Your slideshow has lots of frames, ultra-smooth transitions, and yet it loaded very quickly even on my slow dial-up connection - you won't be able to achieve all of that with an animated gif. If you want to give it a try though then do a search for freeware animated gif-maker software - I haven't made a gif for ages so I don't know what's currently available so I can't really recommend any. Oh, and a lot of the free ones probably won't do transition effects, so try to find one that does, if possible, otherwise you end up with sudden, jerky, harsh-looking jumps between each image.
I've never even used the signature feature on here but I'll go and try it. If you see your slideshow appear in my signature, don't worry - I'm not nicking it! I'll just be testing for the best way to link to it so that it automatically plays and loops, and then I'll remove it.

Sorry, Flick, it turns out that the Proboards forum software won't allow the slideshow to play from within the signature space either. The best you'll get is to have it there as a clickable link, which I think you've already done. The only way that Proboards will accommodate a moving image within the avatar or signature spaces is by way of an animated gif - that really does appear to be the only option.
