Oops, sorry Spymaster I was busy doing some other stuff and didn't see you there.
In your control panel, go to: Create Board - Select Category - Continue - it then gives you this message:
If you would like to create a sub-board, please select the board you want to place it under:
... so select the host board and click Continue and that's it done.

That's new. Hot damn why do they have to do this to me. I just get one thing sorted out and then something else happens. Thanks for the info Steve
On another note you know the new Stanie's screen captions that you've got going? How are you working the hosting for that. I presume you're not paying for it.

The hosting is all quite straightforward, Spymaster, so I wonder if the website colour scheme is confusing you - making it look like the site is part of the forum? We're hosting the screencaps html files for free at Freewebs - www.freewebs.com/stanies_tvcaps/index.htm and for the images, we're linking across to Alice's Photobucket account, which once again is free. The website colour scheme is based on the colour scheme which we're using for the forum, but there's no connection between the two beyond that - the screencaps site is completely separate. By the way, Alice is doing most of the work for the site - she is making the screencaps, then doing the jpeg conversions using a batch converter, then the file uploads to Photobucket. I've just been helping out with the html side of things at Freewebs. Even that's only a temporary involvement though because Alice is about to learn html and take over that side of things too.

A batch convertor? If that is what it sounds like I need one. I've been converting individually forever and it takes, well, forever. Do you know where I could get one?
It wasn't confusing me. I could see that you're hosting them with photobucket I just wondered how because won't you run out of space? That's the problem I had and why I couldn't continue.
Sorry to keep asking.

That's alright Spymaster, you're always welcome. Yes we will run out of space eventually but that's a long way away because the bitmaps (900KB) are converting down to typically only around around 40KB. I'm not sure if there is a limit on the number of files regardless of file size, but even if there is then we just move onto the second part of the plan which is to start hosting the rest of the files at another service similar to Photobucket - there are loads of them out there. I'll give you a list when I've found some which come with recommendations. For batch conversion, I use Paintshop Pro, but if you don't have it then use IrfanView (that's what Alice is using) - the file size is tiny but the features are superb - batch conversion being just one of them. It's a freebie - no restrictions - and it's available from www.irfanview.comThe batch conversion feature is simple to use - it can convert dozens of bitmaps in a couple seconds.

That's funny because mine are on average about 80kb and I guess I was uploading more pics as well. Between 150 and 200 for each episode. A list would be very helpful, thanks.
I appear to have agreed to screencap for another show so the more info I can get about how to do it and not have to give up this time, the better.

The batch converter is easy to use, Spymaster but here are the steps anyway:
1. Put your bitmaps into a folder (it makes things easier if just the bitmaps which you want to convert are in there - nothing else)
2. Open Irfanview and click on File - Batch Conversion
3. At the top where it says 'Look In' - browse to your bitmaps folder.
4. Now select all the bitmaps which you want to convert (multiple file selection).
5. When they are all highlighted - click on 'Add All' (it's in the big column on the left).
6. Where it says 'Use This Directory as Output' - browse to the folder which you want to put the converted files into (you can put them into the same folder or make a new one for them).
7. Click on 'Start'.
8. That's it finished and the jpegs are ready.

On most graphics editors, Spymaster, when you click on 'Save As' and you choose 'jpeg', there will usually be an Options box where you can use a slider to select the jpeg compression factor - Paintshop Pro has it and so does IrfanView - it's in Batch Converter page.
Higher compression = smaller file size but also lower quality Less compression = larger file size but also higher quality
That feature is worth experimenting with. You can compress an awful long way before you really notice any great loss in picture quality. Alice is just starting out on all this tech stuff so we haven't gone into those kind of details yet, so she will be getting those results using the default setting.

Thanks Steve. Hopefully I'll get it right this time and who knows maybe I'll even be able to upload my Royal pics again

No problem, Spymaster, you know I never mind answering your questions, so just ask away if you think I can help with anything.

Steve that batch convertor thing worked like magic. The only problem I have now is there a similar program that makes the HTML for you. I know photobucket does but I'm not using photobucket to host the images I'm using ripway and there doesn't appear to be an option to generate HTML and I know from experience that it takes forever and a day to do it by hand. Any suggestions? Thanks Spy_Master

Ah, that's interesting - Ripway will probably be our next port of call too.
My head's a bit vacant this evening, Spymaster, and I can't quite see what you mean about the html.

well you have to create an html page so that people can see your images - like you have at your website www.freewebs.com/steve_c5/db002.htmWhere you have a page with thumbnails of the images which when you then click on take you to the full size image. I wondered if there was a program, like batch convertor, which could ease the strain of having to change the number on the filename. I just uploaded 639 images and I don't want to have to go through and change the link on each of them. That was the explanation of the problem I had. Thanks to the mercy of the internet I think *cross fingers* that I've just solved it. It needs a bit of tweaking though. I'll post the finished link in a moment so, if you wouldn't mind, you could check that it works for you and not just me. Thanks Spy_Master

Double posting to say I didn't solve my problem just changed the nature of the work. I'm not entirely sure what's worse either probably my first problem
